Located at 37 E Green St, Champaign, IL 61820, Indian Chaat Café operates as an indian restaurant serving Champaign in Illinois. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Champaign, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across Illinois run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–10 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (217) 552-1057. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, indianchaatcafe.cloveronline.com.
Customers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Google across 556 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded indian restaurants in Champaign.
Champaign is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. Getting around Champaign is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Illinois's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

We tried their new menu, payasam a sweet desert, tasted almost like my mother’s. It was very creamy and they put date jaggery which made it more authentic. Also they had the best fuchka(pani puri) on campus for sure, I asked the owner to make it a little Bangladeshi style, so he put onions and green chilis and that really elevated the taste. Their mango lassi was also thick and creamy. The owners cook all the dishes by themselves so it has a very homely feel to it. I would suggest trued the restaurant out. The owner is also very friendly and very open to customising your experience catered to u.

Since I love Indian food, I was excited to try this place out. I proceeded to order the non veggie lunch box (see first photo from their website). Even though I asked for chapati, the guy insisted that I get the butter naan. I paid cash using a $50 bill and the guy examined the bill for an eternity (he should just buy a counterfeit detection pin to save time). The second and third photo shows what I got. A ton of rice, overcooked naan, curry sauce with 2…yes 2 small chunks of chicken, and some kind a soupy lentil side. If you want rice, naan, and flavored sauce for $14, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, stay away.

Love this little place! Uncle was suuuuper friendly and the food is tasty! I got the lamb curry spicy and it was VERY tender, and a nice mild spice. The mango lassi was special, not too sweet and a little sour just how I like it! Can't remember the last time I had one that wasn't overly sweet. It feels like I'm eating in someone's home kitchen and that's what makes it special for me. It's more like going home and my dad making me a plate of something he made. I hear they have good dal/lentil too but didn't try it. I'll be back for sure!

Great, quick spot for take out Indian! As vegetarians we ordered samosa chaat and chole bhature with mango lassi. We could alter the spice level and everything was very flavorful. The chaat full of all the classics and the bhature was fluffy and delicious. What stood out even more was the friendly service- he was very helpful, considerate, and welcoming. We will definitely be back! Not a sit down place- can only accommodate two people sitting.

We ordered Samosa Chaat, Hing Kachori, Pav Baaji, and Spinach Onion Pakora. All the items were delicious and spiced well. Owner is from West India (Bengal) and super sweet. Store also provides complimentary chai - a nice warm treat in the Central IL winters while you wait for your food. Store also has a few high top / bar style seating but the place is mainly designed to be to-go. Excited to try the entrees (rolls and Biriyanis) next time!
